Control Unit Input Test


Disconnect the 8-P connector from the control unit. Make the following input tests at the connector terminals. If all tests prove OK, yet the system still fails to work, substitute the control unit with a known-good one. If the system is then OK, replace the control unit.

NOTE: If the shift lock solenoid clicks when the ignition switch is ON and the brake pedal is pushed (the shift lever is in position P and the accelerator is in its rest position), the shift lock system is electronically normal. If the shift lever cannot be shifted from position P, see page 23-162 and section 14.

there should be 1 V or less.
•   Faulty PGM-FI ECU.
•   An open in the wire.
•   Faulty brake switch (see Section
11).
•   Faulty throttle angle sensor (see
Section 11).
Ignition switch ON.
Step on the brake
pedal and the ac-
celerator at the same
time.
Check for voltage to ground:
it should be approx. 3 V.

GRN/WHT
Shift lever in position

Check for continuity to ground:
there should be continuity.
•   Faulty shift position console switch.
•   Poor ground (G201, G401).
•   An open in the wire.

YEL/BLK
Ignition switch ON.
Check for voltage to ground:
it should be battery voltage.
•   Blown No. 15 (10 A) fuse.
•   Faulty shift lock solenoid.
•   An open in the wire.

•   Faulty steering lock assembly (key
interlock solenoid).
•   An open in the wire.

Ignition switch turned
to ACC and the key
pushed in.
Check for voltage to ground:
it should be battery voltage.
•   Blown No. 42 (20 A) fuse.
•   Faulty steering lock assembly (key
